Following the sell-out success of the pop-ups over the past three years, the Women’s Prize for Fiction at the Baileys Book Bar is back for another sequence of inspiring and thought-provoking events celebrating the best of writing by women.
Opening its doors for four exciting days from Tuesday 30th April at Waterstones Tottenham Court Road in London, the Baileys Book Bar will host a series of events intended both to mark the 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction shortlist, which will be announced on Monday 29th April, and to celebrate the very best writing by women. The book store’s basement social space will be transformed into a literary haven, honouring women’s voices and combining the treat for the mind that is reading with the deliciously indulgent Baileys!
The Baileys Book Bar will feature some of the UK’s most inspirational women and bestselling novelists. Since 2016, the brilliant book events have welcomed a range of speakers from Lily Cole, Val McDermid, Sara Pascoe, Nicci Gerrard, Louise Doughty and Kit de Waal. The Book Bar will again be hosted by the Women’s Prize for Fiction’s Founder Director and No. 1 international bestselling novelist, Kate Mosse. The pop-up Book Bar will also be a showcase for Baileys’ latest and most indulgent cocktails.

Tuesday 30th April at 6.30pm: Thinking Pink: What Feminism Means to Millennials (Hosted by Kate Mosse with Dolly Alderton, Scarlett Curtis and Clarissa Pabi)
Hosted by bestselling author and Women’s Prize for Fiction’s Founder Director Kate Mosse, the panel includes 2019 Women’s Prize judge, journalist and author of the bestselling Everything I Know About Love, Dolly Alderton, feminist campaigner and author of Feminists Don’t Wear Pink Scarlett Curtis and publisher and executive producer of the Mostly Lit podcast, Clarissa Pabi, to chat about what the F-word means to millennials today and to share some of the feminist books that have inspired them.
Wednesday 1st May at 6.30pm: Women Writers Revisited (Hosted by Kate Mosse with Arifa Akbar, Leyla Hussein and Ali Smith)
A one-off live version of Women’s Prize for Fiction’s hugely popular new online feature Women Writers Revisited, this panel of exceptional women will discuss the overlooked or ‘forgotten’ female writers who have inspired them. Hosted by bestselling author and Founder Director Kate Mosse, she’ll be joined by two of the 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction judges, journalist and theatre critic Arifa Akbar and psychotherapist and anti-FGM campaigner Leyla Hussein, and the beloved novelist Ali Smith, winner of the 2015 Women’s Prize for Fiction for How to be Both.
Thursday 2nd May at 6.30pm: Women Mean Business (Hosted by Kate Mosse with Sarah Wood, Melanie Eusebe and Syl Saller)
A panel of jaw-droppingly impressive women in business join bestselling author and Founder Director Kate Mosse to talk about the female authors and books that played a part in their incredible success, and how women are reshaping the world of work today. Kate is joined by 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction judge and Digital Entrepreneur Sarah Wood, founder of the Black British Business Awards Melanie Eusebe and Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer for Diageo and member of the Women’s Prize for Fiction board, Syl Saller.
Friday 3rd May: Unsung Heroines of History (Hosted by Kate Mosse with Kate Williams, Olivette Otele and Bettany Hughes)
To round off the week of events, join bestselling author and Women’s Prize for Fiction Founder Director Kate Mosse and a panel of brilliant female historians as they discuss inspirational women from history, including those who have been unjustly written out of the narrative. Kate is joined by Women Prize for Fiction’s 2019 Chair of Judges, author and broadcaster Professor Kate Williams, specialist in European colonial and post-colonial History Professor Olivette Otele and author, broadcaster and Classicist Bettany Hughes.
